Please remember NO meeting this Monday, May 31, Memorial Day.
Since school is out for the summer, Chef Ryan Davis with Argyle Catering Company will be providing our lunches for the month of June.
Mizzou Football Coach Gary Pinkel stressed the importance of team as family in his remarks to the Jefferson City Rotary Club on May 24. Tiger football players are constantly encouraged to protect the team family and to live up to expectations that include a good attitude, no excuses, hard work ethic and leaving selfish motives behind while focusing on the team.
Pinkel discussed creation of a family atmosphere through building relationships among coaches and players and establishing core values that include honesty, respect for women, freedom from drugs and respect for cultural differences. Click below for the complete audio of Coach Pinkel’s remarks.
The month of May is flying by. Graduations, weddings, the ending of the legislative session, and the planting/replanting of gardens are all in full swing.
So you need to plan on joining us Monday for our program, “How does your garden grow?” presented by Alice Longfellow from Longfellow Garden Center. I know I can use all of the help I can get in nurturing my feeble gardening efforts.
The end of our Rotary year is also approaching. Programs through June include:
Monday, May 24 – Preview to Tiger Football 2010, Gary Pinkel, Head Coach of the Mizzou Tigers
Monday, May 31 – Memorial Day, no meeting
Monday, June 7 – Angel Flight, Chip Gentry, Pilot
Monday, June 14 – Issues in Education, Chris Nicastro, Commissioner of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
Monday, June 21 – Tourism in Missouri, Katie Steele Danner, Director of Tourism, State of Missouri
Monday, June 28 – Club Assembly, New Officer Installation Ceremony
I’ve also attached an invitation to a Rotary “Strike out Polio” event at the Detroit Tigers Vs. Kansas City Royals baseball game, June 6th.
Have a great weekend and see you on Monday,
Steve
