State of the county

Marc
Not a confusing listing of political entities, but the subject of Cole County Presiding Commissioner Marc Ellinger's remarks to the Jefferson City Rotary Club February 28. Marc is also a member of the Club.

He said the new Cole County Jail is expected open in early June despite setbacks due to the extreme winter weather. Watch local media for more details on Bed, Breakfast and Bars, which will allow local residents an inside look at the new jail.

Marc also announced an election June 7 to decide on extension of the half-cent county capital improvement sales tax for another five years. Among the projects, many of them joint with Jefferson City, that would be financed with revenues from the tax extensions are: infrastructure improvements near the old Missouri State Penitentiary, extension of Wildwood Drive, improvements to the Stadium Boulevard/Jefferson Street intersection, and improvements to Frog Hollow Road near the new St. Mary's Hospital site.

Finally, Marc urged Club members to become involved in the Jefferson City Transformation process led by the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce by joining one of the nine action teams that will develop ideas for specific areas of the city. "This is not a county job or a city job, but a community job," he said. "All this has to do with making our community better."
